MY MUSIC HISTORY: A SHAPE POEM

i listened to my red
record player
i heard…dogs barking,
kids
swearing, gunshots,
cars
exploding,
teaching
teaching,
preachers
preaching.
at an
early age..
i strummed
a guitar.
played a
toy organ.
banged
upon my
(tin) drum
all day.
was given a stratocastor at the age of 12.
and my life was changed. forever.
house of the rising son. peggy sue. you really got me.
quickly transitioned to. should i stay or should i go.
man down under. mirror in the bathroom.
allowance money converted to…
mics. amps. effects. pedals. recording gear.
friendships became based on bands and music style…
jazz. reggae. punk. rock.
studied recording production and jazz guitar at berklee in boston.
studied radio production, tv production, film production at cu in boulder.
experienced live performances by great musicians across all spectrums.
black flag. ron carter. einsturzende. new order. peter murphy. david sylvian.
had a chance to converse with many musicians along the way.
psychic tv. meat puppets. concrete blonde. voivod. chris&cosey. xymox.
worked in television and ad agencies and continued to write and record music.
continued to listen. continued to write and record.
continued to perform. continuned to converse. continued to play.
